Let's start preparing new mothers and new birthing parents for the mental health journey that comes after giving birth.
There are so many mental health nuances in the journey of becoming a parent and not enough are discussed freely and without shame.
I do this with all of my friends and clients entering this stage and wanted to share this with you all so that you could share it with the new birthing parents that you know and love.
I hope it also gives some of you some clarity on what you went thru as a new mother and greater compassion for yourself as a result.
In this video, the speaker discusses teaching children to be socially capable while also recognizing and speaking out against abusive power dynamics, rejecting the notion that respect equals compliance and emphasizing the importance of paying attention and setting boundaries.
The most helpful way for a child to understand boundaries is to model it for them, and as parents, we should also honor some of our children's boundaries as well to protect connection and safety, not power.
Avoid focusing too much on fairness when teaching kids, as it can create a belief that good behavior is always rewarded and bad behavior is always punished, leading to the dangerous belief that they deserve any trauma they experience, instead use relational motivation to guide them towards making good choices.
